Lenovo IdeaCentre B550 23-Inch All-in-One Touchscreen Desktop (57323749)

I've owned this model for about a week and have done all the configuring and installing of apps I'm likely to do for awhile. In my opinion, it is configurations like the B550 that Windows 8 was made for. Big, high resolution touchscreen with plenty of RAM and tons of storage. The build quality is high (the mouse and keyboard, as well. As someone who works from home and looks at a computer screen all day, this was a great choice as the 23" screen is bright and clear. Plus, coming from using a laptop with a bluetooth keyboard and mouse, the amount of real estate that has been freed up on my desk with this form factor has been a godsend. The unit does have noticeable fan noise BUT it is NOT obtrusive. Bootup is amazingly fast considering it is a hard-drive based unit. I attribute that at least in part to the 8GB of working memory, a must with Windows 8 in my opinion, especially if you run many apps simultaneously or have many browser windows open at the same time. As I really heavily on Google Drive cloud storage with my work I will never use up the copious 1TB of storage. It's an embarrasment of riches in that regard. For those wondering about whether to move to a Windows 8 machine, I say give it a try and take the time to learn the basics. The rest will come easily after that. Plus, with Microsoft coming out soon with changes that will harken back to Windows 7, the user experience is going to improve dramatically. The Windows 8 tile format, is fantastic, in my opinion for setting up news feeds, sports news or whatever, just the way you want.
